Welcome Parents and Students! This site is designed to aid you and your student in my science classes. Be sure to read about how my class works below.
At the beginning of each unit your student receives a schedule and an outline. Download examples below. This schedule looks very much like a college syllabus showing what will be done in class each day, the assigned homework and all important vocabulary and learning targets. This should help your student stay organized and always know when and what is assigned. The schedule is a great study guide. Students can use the vocabulary to make flash cards and the learning targets to figure out what topics they should review before the test.
The outline is essentially the class notes for that unit’s content. Typically, one-two parts of the outline are assigned every day (check the schedule). Your student will complete an outline at home with the aid of a screencast (a 5-10 minute video of me going over the content). Screencasts, schedules and the outline can be found right here at mrsolson.com under the screencast tab located in each class folder.
Late work can be turned in as long as it is before the unit test (the date is on the schedule). After the unit test no late work from that unit will be accepted (this is a school wide rule). I always ensure that students get a grade check before each test to let them know what they are missing, in hopes that they will turn it in.
I hope that this gives you some insight into how my class runs. If you ever want to discuss your individual students needs feel free to contact me at email@example.com.
